1) Tanks have at least 5 seals which can fail and cause:
A) projectiles in the room
B) leaking of CO2 in the treatment room which can cause a
patient to lose consciousness and/or result in death
2) Refillable tanks are not cleaned or sterilized between fillings. They have been found to have mold, rust and other contaminants inside the tank which would compromise the sterility of a treatment.
3) Carbon Dioxide expires. The gas in large tanks expires, too. CO2 gas is typically good for 8-12 months. Most physicians will waste the majority of the gas.
4) Possibility of air contamination in delivering gas to a reservoir without purging the reservoir.
5) No exact science to mixing gas from two separate tanks. Inaccuracies are a certainty when trying to get a 23/77 mix of gases with 2 tanks.
6) Tanks do not always carry certification of medical purity.
7) Tanks are cumbersome, unsightly, and hard to store.
